Professor, friend and colleague John Diercks passed away in April 2020. A resident of Honolulu since his retirement from Hollins University, Jack - as he was more familiarly known - continued to compose and arrange music for the piano, specifically for his wife Thelma who was a renowned pianist. Thelma passed away only a month after her husband.
His fascination in bell overtones was the source of his inspiration for his carillon compositions. A brilliant mind and generous soul, Jack's prolific and virtuous career can be appreciated in his attached biography.
Jack and Thelma are survived by two daughters, and several grandchildren.
Rest in peace.
