New Transcription of Early Carillon Music, presented by Carson Landry

In the 18th century, the art of carillon in the Southern Netherlands experienced a great heyday. It was, among others, the time of carillonists Joannes de Gruytters and Matthias Vanden Gheyn. Now, the best of this music is available in a playing edition edited by Carson Landry and published by the Royal Carillon School in Belgium. The book offers an anthology spanning multiple books, including relatively unknown works like arrangements by Vanden Gheyn, lengthy themes and variations from the Leuven Carillon Manuscript, and works from the carillon book of Frans de Prins. In this webinar, Carson will introduce the book's contents, explain its scholarly and performance merits, and discuss performance practice.

Carson Landry is pursuing his master's in carillon performance at the University of Michigan, studying with Tiffany Ng and Pamela Ruiter-Feenstra. Previously, he earned a diploma from the Royal Carillon School in Belgium while on a Fulbright scholarship, and a BA in music studies from Principia College. A native of Orlando, Florida, he has been a fellow at Bok Tower Gardens and the Thomas Rees Memorial Carillon, and has given concerts in the US and Europe. He serves the GCNA on the PDEI Committee and as a typesetter for music publications.
