Member bio
Julie Zhu is a composer, artist, and carillonist. Her work is conceptual and transdisciplinary, ranging from interactive sculpture to video installation, electronic performance to orchestral musics. She collaborates with diverse artists to create uncommon chamber music contexts.
Zhu was the resident carillonneur at Saint Thomas Church Fifth Avenue from 2015 to 2018 and continues to concertize around the world. She regularly plays carillon recitals at the University of Michigan where she is a President’s Postdoctoral Fellow in Performing Arts Technology. Zhu is a graduate of the Royal Carillon School ‘Jef Denyn’ and has served on the Bulletin committee for the GCNA since 2016.
An album of Zhu’s carillon compositions recorded by Carson Landry will be released in 2025.
