Yorkminster Park Baptist Church in Toronto, Canada seeks a part-time carillonneur. Yorkminster Park Baptist Church is a large progressive congregation in the heart of mid-town Toronto. Music and the arts figure prominently in the life and liturgy of the church as does social service and community engagement. The church carillonneur is part of a team of musicians reporting to the Director of Music. Yorkminster Park’s carillon began with the gift of four memorial bells in 2008. Ten bells were added in 2013 and twenty-three more along with a manual keyboard in 2023. The original fourteen bells were cast at the former Petit and Fritsen Foundry in the Netherlands while the 2023 bells were cast at the Royal Eijsbouts Foundry also in the Netherlands.
The post of church carillonneur is a part-time position. The carillonneur plays a 30-minute recital after the Sunday morning Worship Service each week, throughout the year, with additional recitals during Easter, Advent and Christmas. The carillonneur also organizes a summer guest recital series and 11:30 a.m. recitals prior to some of the weekly Wednesday noonday organ recitals, supervises the annual maintenance of the carillon, and purchases music for the sheet music library. Compensation offered is approximately $13,000 annually. Performances for weddings and memorial services are compensated separately at a rate of $250 per service.
